Happy 4th of July! Bring on the pools, picnics and fireworks! I will most likely be celebrating at the WS Dash baseball game as I have for the past several years. They always have the most amazing fireworks, and it has become a bit of a tradition for us now. If baseball isn’t your thing, as usual, there is no lack of fun things to do in our community to celebrate our beloved Independence Day! Check out our calendar of events for plenty of other options!
Forsyth Mags lost a very special member of our team in late May. Kelly Groce, father of Forsyth Woman owner and publisher, Keela Johnson, unexpectedly passed away. Keela and her dad had a special bond and I always admired the closeness they shared. For many years, he made countless magazine deliveries, and on many delivery days we would all meet for lunch. Kelly (or papaw as he was affectionately called) and I had a couple things in common, we were pretty picky eaters and were always the last ones to finish! I will cherish the times we all spent together, especially in the earlier days of the mags. He was the kindest, gentlest and most soft-spoken person I knew, and he will be missed greatly!
We extend our deepest sympathy to Keela and her family at this time.
Speaking of Keela…I want to wish my dearest friend and what I call the sister I never had a very happy 60th birthday! It pains me to say, but she urged her mom, daughter and me not to have her a birthday blowout. I still relish in her surprise 50th party that we pulled off. Anyone who knows me, knows that I love to throw a good party. At any rate, with everything she has been through lately, breast cancer 2.0, her husband’s stroke and now her father’s passing. I can understand why. However, we will be celebrating in a big way at her Forsyth WomanGirl’s Night Out on July 15th at Providence Restaurant, so mark your calendars for a GNO not to be missed!
Our July cover features the wonderful staff at Novant Health WomanCare. Read all about the things that set them apart!
Wishing everyone a safe and happy summer!
Blessings!
