Does your little one or family love getting crafty? There are so many fun and easy Independence Day craft ideas. Here are a few:

  • Handprint American Flag – Put a blue handprint where the stars go and paint on red and white lines (or use white paper and simply paint only red lines).

  • Patriotic Suncatchers – This is a great craft for older kids.

These are only a few ideas. Doing a simple search for patriotic kids’ crafts on Google or Pinterest will bring up tons of craft ideas – maybe more than you bargained for!

Patriotic Bites

What holiday isn’t complete without food? Whether you make your feast together or just dine together, food is a great way to bring the family together this Independence Day! Below are a few fun red, white and blue inspired food ideas.

  • Red, White & Blue Fruit Skewers – Layer strawberries, bananas and blueberries on sticks.
  • American Flag Veggie Tray – Arrange red bell peppers or cherry tomatoes, cauliflower and blue corn tortilla chips in a flag shape.
  • Sparkler Pretzel Rods – Put melted white chocolate on pretzel sticks and then top with red and blue sprinkles.
  • Red, White & Blue Nachos – Create nachos with blue corn chips, white cheese/sour cream and salsa.
  • Patriotic Punch – Use fruit punch (red), lemonade (white) and blue sports drink to create this. Note: Pour slowly over ice to keep layers separate.

New Traditions

Every holiday is a great time to create family traditions. While many often do this for Easter or Christmas, Independence Day often gets overlooked! But, it’s a great chance to bond as a family and create traditions you do every single year. Here are a few ideas:

  • Read the Declaration of Independence, or at least parts of it, and discuss its importance.
  • Host an annual 4th of July party.
  • Create a Freedom Jar where everyone writes on a strip of paper what they’re thankful for about living in America.
  • Decorate patriotic t-shirts.
  • Watch patriotic movies.
  • If you have a tight-knit neighborhood, get everyone together to put on your own Independence Day parade.

No matter what event, food or activity you choose, you can’t go wrong this Independence Day when you spend it with your family!
