As we head into fall, Josh Rowell, whose family has owned and operated Casual Furniture World for nearly four decades, says he’s seeing a trend towards efficiency when to comes to what customers look for most.
“We’ve seen this in wood stoves, gas fireplaces, gas logs and even outdoor fire pits,” he explains. The most up-and-coming gas fireplaces are direct vents and direct vent inserts, and both use a chimney system that brings in outside air and exhaust outside. This means no smells and high efficiency!
“Direct vent fireplaces are mostly for new construction and remodels,” says Josh. “Direct vent inserts are used to convert old, inefficient wood-burning fireplaces and turn them into a more efficient gas option for your home. Many of these new fireplaces are so efficient they are even rated as a primary heat source!”
Casual Furniture World also still sells a good number of gas logs – and many customers are switching out older models for more stylish looks such as embed beds, glowing logs and, of course, remote controls which are now standard on most units.
Josh also explains much of the latest technology in gas logs centers around “radiant heat” which captures heat that would otherwise be lost by absorbing it into the log and radiating it back into the room as an infrared heatwave.
“We have seen a similar technology in Breeo outdoor fire pits that we carry – which use an after-burn system to burn much of the smoke from the fire,” he says.
For outdoor fire pits (all the rage for ultimate relaxation at home) this huge reduction in smoke creates a much more enjoyable evening for family and friends. Fire pits can range from cast iron to metal, with certain linear designs better suited for large patios, along with smaller circular and square fire pits with room at the edges just right for resting your favorite beverage.
The company has also privately labeled and manufactured its own line of gas fire pits and gas logs – getting ahead of the curve when it comes to ongoing manufacturing and shipping issues worldwide – and their showroom will be brimming with a comfortable selection of both fire pits and gas logs for the cooler – and cozy – months ahead.
Of course, there are safety concerns to address when choosing and placing an outdoor fire pit. Local building codes and ordinances should be followed, especially when it comes to wood-burning fire pits. “We have a large number of customers wanting to put gas fire pits on screen porches and in sun rooms,” says Josh. “While often hard to find, with the right ceiling clearances, and a few other specifications, we do have a few fire pits that are approved to be used in these situations.”
