Truliant’s Triad Area Events for July and August

July and August offer a variety of interesting, exciting and one-of-a-kind events for families to experience in and around the Triad. Here are some of the top offerings to consider:

Horses and the Human Experience
Jan. 22-Dec. 6
Museum of Anthropology at Wake Forest University
Free

For thousands of years, humans and horses have had a unique partnership. Horses depend on humans for care, feeding and protection. Humans rely on horses for speed and strength. This student-curated exhibit focuses on areas where horses have transformed the human experience.

The American Experiment: Nineteenth Century Prints
Feb. 26-Aug. 4
Reynolda House Museum of American Art.
Tickets $18, children free

This small exhibit features important issues of the time: religion, politics, race, gender and modern life. Featured artists include: Caton Woodville, George Caleb Bingham and Thomas Hovenden.

At the Old Ball Game
April 23-July 7
High Point Museum
Free

This exhibit highlights baseball in High Point. Area newspapers have documented baseball in the city since the 1880s.

Warm Water: New Works by Charles Williams
June 8-August 11
Southeastern Center for Contemporary Art, Winston-Salem
Free

Charles Williams is a contemporary artist from Georgetown, S.C. This exhibit tells the story of five black teens and what reportedly caused the death of Eugene Williams in Chicago. “Warm Water” is a collection of re-narrated works based on the event that sparked the Chicago Race Riot of 1919.

It’s 1962 in Baltimore. Tracy Turnblad has one desire: Dance on the popular “Corny Collins Show.” After her appearance, Tracy is transformed from social outcast to sudden star. “Hairspray,” The winner of eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical, is a family friendly musical with plenty of laughs and romance.

D.R.E.A.M.: The Tour

Jojo Siwa, a Nickelodeon superstar and YouTube (1.7 billion views) personality, is a singer, dancer, social-media influencer and a star on Nickelodeon’s “Lip Sync Battle Shorties.” Siwa has had a number of hit singles: “Boomerang,” “Kid in a Candy Store,” “Hold The Drama,” and “High Top Shoes.”

Constant/Change

This exhibit features eight emerging artists from North Carolina: Megan Bostic, Michael Clapp, Julie Anne Greenberg, Eric Knoche, Karmimadeebora McMillan, Kenny Nguyen, Katie St. Clair and Matthew Steele. Each will have 500 square feet to showcase their work.

Willie Nelson & Family and Alison Krauss: Together Live
Aug. 17

Willie Nelson, a country music legend, and Alison Krauss, a 27-time Grammy winner, will be appearing together on 13 dates in June, July and August.
