A little over a year ago, locals David and Renee Butner acquired Kilwins. Having been familiar with the Blowing Rock and Wilmington locations, the Butners felt this would be a perfect fit for them. David has been in the food business his whole life and owned a commercial storage business where one of his largest customers was Pet Ice Cream. He also had a bakery distribution company, so this was a natural transition for him. Renee has always had a love of baking and gourmet cooking and has a strong passion for dark chocolates and desserts.
The aroma outside is enough to make anyone come inside—and once inside, you will be met with an array of delicious options.

What are some of the descriptions you have heard people use in referring to the chocolate aroma? Mouth- watering, delicious, tantalizing, intoxicating, “How can you stand the temptation of working here every day?”
What are the most popular five ice cream flavors? Toasted Coconut is the #1 seller, followed by Sea Salt Caramel, Cappuccino Chip, New Orleans Praline and Winston-Salem Mud.
What are the 3 most popular/favorite chocolates?The #1 item is the hand-dipped Chocolate Strawberries. They are dipped in milk, dark and white chocolate and are dipped several times a day. Dark Chocolate Truffles and Milk Chocolate Buckeyes (which are made in the store) are the other favs.
What are the top 3 most popular hand-dipped Caramel Apples? Apple Pie, Dark Sea Salt and Caramel. There are 9 different varieties that are all Granny Smith Apples. YUMMY!
Interesting Fact…The Butners kettle-cook their fudge the same way Don and Katy Kilwin did in the 1940s. The top 3 flavors are Chocolate, Sea Salt Caramel and Chocolate Peanut Butter.
