The Podcast Everyone in Winston-Salem Should Be Listening To

If you haven’t tuned into the Forsyth Magazines Podcast yet…what are you waiting for?

Launched in 2020 and hosted by Forsyth Magazines publisher Brooke Culler, the podcast has quietly become one of the most entertaining, inspiring and authentically local conversations happening in the Triad. With more than 275 episodes recorded — yes, 275+ and counting — this weekly show shines a spotlight on the incredible people, businesses and stories that make our community so unique.

Every Thursday, a brand-new episode drops on all major streaming platforms, including Spotify, Apple Podcasts and the Forsyth Magazines YouTube Channel. And in 2024, the podcast leveled up even more by officially adding video recording to every episode — giving listeners (and now viewers!) an even more personal, behind-the-scenes feel.

Of course, no successful podcast happens without an incredible production team behind the scenes. The Forsyth Magazines Podcast is produced by Tim Beeman of Such-n-Such Media, whose expertise, creativity and consistency have helped shape the podcast into what it is today. From managing production to helping guests feel comfortable on camera and behind the mic, Tim has been an essential part of the podcast’s growth and success.

What makes the Forsyth Magazines Podcast stand out? It’s real. It’s fun. And it never feels overly polished or scripted. Brooke’s conversational interview style makes guests instantly comfortable, which leads to the kind of stories you actually want to hear.

In fact, Brooke says podcasting has become one of her favorite parts of her job.

Ironically, that wasn’t always the case.

“When I first started, I hated hearing my own voice,” Brooke admits. “But after recording so much, I genuinely don’t mind it anymore!”

Turns out, practice really does make perfect.

The very first episode featured Cheri Lingafelt and Justin Lingafelt, owners of Accent Prone — and since then, the guest list has grown into an incredible collection of local entrepreneurs, creatives, leaders and personalities.

The format is intentional, too. Most episodes clock in at around 20 minutes long. Why? Because attention spans are shorter than ever, and 20 minutes happens to be the average commute time. It’s the perfect bite-sized listen for your drive to work, your morning walk or a quick coffee break.

Another fun behind-the-scenes fact? Brooke batch records episodes once a month, tackling four interviews back-to-back, with one released each week. But in the early days, she pushed herself way harder.

“When the podcast first launched, I would record EIGHT episodes in a row,” she says. “I’d be in the studio for four straight hours. I learned pretty quickly that was too much. It’s hard to stay fully engaged that long, so four episodes has become the sweet spot.”

The guests themselves are a huge part of what makes the show special. Podcast appearances are a perk for Forsyth Magazines advertising partners, but these interviews go far beyond business promotion. The goal is to uncover the real stories — the histories, personalities and passions behind the brands.

Some standout episodes that immediately come to mind for Brooke include episode 180 with Adam Andrews, owner of Young Cardinal Cafe and Co., Twisted Pine and Jeffrey Adams on Fourth; episode 203 featuring the Winston-Salem Police Department; a live wine tasting with Dynamis Estate Wines; episode 217 with Ava from Sunless Body Studios; episode 232 with contractor Darris Perkins of Dare to Design; and episode 234 with Melissa from Run RascaldyRoo Mobile K9 Gym, which Brooke describes as absolutely hilarious.

The best part? There truly is an episode for everyone.

Whether you’re looking for inspiration, business insight, community connection or simply a good laugh, the Forsyth Magazines Podcast delivers it — one engaging conversation at a time.

Tune in this Thursday. You just might find your new favorite podcast.
