“In and About” with Evening for Alzheimer’s Care – Senior Services in Winston-Salem

As these unique times continue, so do the creative styles people are resorting to in keeping life as normal as possible. This was Senior Services 21st Annual Evening for Alzheimer’s Care which benefits the award-winning Elizabeth and Tab Williams Adult Day Center. Typically, the Evening for Alzheimer’s Care is comprised of an in-person gala, seated dinner and live auction. However, out of an abundance of caution and concern for the safety of the very community our organization serves, this was the second year in a row that the event was held virtually, with an online program and auction. Fully vaccinated and masked guests were able to get an in-person preview of the fabulous auction items on Friday, November 5th, from 3-6pm at Senior Services. For the second year in a row, WXII’s Lanie Pope graciously agreed to be our program’s MC as her beloved mother passed away from Alzheimer’s at 66 years of age.

This event has always been known for the unique array of silent auction items which brings the community and friends together to support a worthy cause. An online platform was used through which they were able to house the silent auction and offer registration for the bidding online. The long-standing relationship between Senior Services and 5 Loaves Catering allowed them to recreate the gala experience by providing pre-purchased boxed meals that were available for pick-up on the night of the event. “We are extremely humbled by the outpouring of support we received by way of donated auction items from local businesses as well as much needed sponsorships,” said Leigh Anne Groves, Chief Development Officer. “We doubled our auction sales from last year which – during a pandemic – is pretty remarkable and a testament to how well-loved Senior Services is in this community and for the great work we do within it. The online auction was a week-long event and featured items such as jewelry, golf trips, vacation packages and gift certificates from many local businesses and restaurants.”

This year’s Honorary Chairs were David and Joan Cotterill who have been actively involved in Senior Services for decades. The event co-chairs, Shana and Adam Hurt, reprised their roles as event co-chairs for the second year in a row.

The Diamond Sponsor of this year’s event was Truist and the Emerald Sponsor was Reynolds. Corporate Partners that helped sponsor the event were Southern Pharmacy and Workplace Architecture + Design. Corporate Friends were Allegacy Credit Union, Blanco Tackabery, Carolina Estate Planning, Comerford, Childson & Moser, L.L.P., Flow Automotive, Flow Lexus, Forsyth Medical Supply, Golden Corral, Hanesbrands, Marsh & McLennan Agency, The Law Offices of Roderick T. McIver, Mercedes Benz, Robinson & Lawing, L.L.P., Stephens Inc., The Law Offices of Timothy Welborn, Trellis Supportive Care, UBS, and Versa Technologies. Corporate Associates were Arbor Acres, Berkshire Hathaway, Leonard Ryden Burr, Pennybyrn, Salemtowne, Sammy Phillips Electric, Suzanne Taylor Ramm, Realtor, BHHS and Pinnacle Financial Partners.

Senior Services wishes to express a special recognition to Lynn Eisenberg, Kay Chalk, Ellen Parsley, Judy Groves, Dek Driscoll and members of the Senior Services Board of Directors, Senior Services Foundation Board and staff.
