Brittany Freeman is a married mom of one who calls Kernersville home. With the support of her husband, Brian, and a plethora of family and friends, she launched Purple Feather Designs in January 2019. Her business is based on embracing her love for creativity and fashionable jewelry. Brittany’s “Memaw” inspired the name and much of the business’ overall message.
“My Memaw was my inspiration. She was a constant encouragement in my life. She passed away in October 2016, and almost a full year later, my daughter was born. “Memaw had given me a jewelry kit,” said Brittany. “One day, as I was looking through the kit and watching Joanna Gaines on TV, I thought, ‘I really love her jewelry!’ And I realized I could design my own. Once inspiration hit, and I began to mull ideas over in my mind, I realized how much I could do…. I loved the lightweight, leather look as well as the simplicity of the designs. I began to put my own ideas together, and it started as something I did for family and friends. I began to play with different colors and layering looks. My family and friends were so supportive, and eventually, I decided to start a website.”
“As the business began to take shape, I chose to name the business in honor of my grandmother—purple was her absolute favorite color, and feathers symbolize a heavenly message. She was such a positive ray of light, and the name of my business is meant to reflect that and honor her memory.”
With a wide range of collections that represent a variety of styles—there is something for everyone! “Each collection on my website has a special meaning for me,” said Brittany. “While the business name honors Memaw, I’ve named each collection after a special girl/woman in my life—from my daughter and niece to my best friend (who is also my earring model!), and more! So my customers aren’t getting something mass-produced. They are getting a one-of-a-kind creation that is handmade with love in honor of someone near and dear to my heart.”
Each pair of earrings is handmade and can be custom-sized for the wearer. “I use vegan leather,” said Brittany, “which gives me loads of color and pattern options! And all my earrings are nickel-free and super affordable. My designs are meant to highlight the wearer’s natural beauty and help her express herself and her own individuality.”
The earrings are lightweight and certain to make people stop and ask the wearer, “Where did you get those earrings?”
“Well, they can get them at Mis Match Boutique in Kernersville or from a number of online retailers.” Brittany shared, “Besides our third-party vendors, Purple Feather Designs are available on our website, as well as on Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest. We have also launched the featured ‘Earring of the Month’ on our website! Fashion-fans can make a monthly visit to see which featured earring is on sale.”
Brittany continued, “We started local, but we’ve branched out with orders coming as far away as Hawaii and Alaska! It’s so exciting for me that the legacy of my beloved grandmother lives on in my business; I’m grateful that what she inspired has been embraced by so many!”
