Child Care Resource Center (formerly known as “Work Family Resource Center”) is your local expert child care resource and referral organization, serving nine Northwest North Carolina counties (Alleghany, Ashe, Davidson, Davie, Forsyth, Stokes, Surry, Wilkes, and Yadkin) for over 28 years.
Created in 1991 as a collaborative effort between the Junior League of Winston-Salem, Northwest Child Development Council, The Winston-Salem Foundation and United Way of Forsyth County, and several local employers, Child Care Resource Center’s (CCRC) vision is to ensure quality early-learning experiences for every child in our community. CCRC works with families and early-childhood professionals to provide consumer education, referrals, and resources to promote quality childcare in our community. The work of the agency focuses on coordinating childcare services with childcare needs and increasing public awareness about the importance of quality childcare.

CCRC Engages Families by providing the tools families need to make the best decision about childcare for their child and family. In consultation with a CCRC Parent Specialist, you will learn about indicators of quality you can look for as you visit potential childcare programs. You will receive a tool kit that provides a list of questions you can ask each childcare provider to learn more about their program and how they will care for your child. You will also receive information about North Carolina’s quality rating system for childcare programs and how this system is linked to the quality of care your child will receive.

Whether an in-home nanny or a childcare program, you want to be sure that it is an environment that will keep him/her healthy, safe, and learning. CCRC Enriches Child Care by providing professional development and on-site coaching to early childhood professionals. Topics include CPR/First Aid, cultural competence, early inclusion, child development, developmentally appropriate curriculum, and managing challenging behaviors, and more. Observation, modeling, coaching, and feedback provide opportunities for teachers to put the new knowledge into practice and to increase their capacity to work more effectively with your child. CCRC Enhances Communities by advocating for quality childcare and for adequate wages for childcare professionals. We believe that quality childcare/early learning experiences set the groundwork for future learning, and we focus on the link between quality childcare, school readiness, and future workforce preparedness. Studies prove that children who have access to high-quality early learning education are better prepared to enter kindergarten and are more successful in life.
CCRC is deeply committed to working within the community to improve the quality and availability of childcare. Through daily interactions with parents and childcare providers, CCRC collects essential data on childcare supply and demand, so that needs can be identified and solutions developed to meet those needs. CCRC collaborates with other agencies to help educate community leaders on childcare issues and works closely with state and national children’s organizations to support initiatives that enable children to develop to their fullest potential.

More and more, employers are realizing that their employees’ ability to balance the demands of their work and personal life has a significant impact on absenteeism, productivity, morale, and turnover. Absenteeism and lost productivity related to challenges surrounding childcare is a serious and growing problem. CCRC can help employers assess their needs and develop customized solutions. Services offered include consultation on developing family-friendly policies and benefits, enhanced resources, and referrals to assist employees with their dependent care needs, and seminars on a variety of work and family issues. CCRC contracts with several local employers to provide enhanced resource and referral services (childcare and nanny referrals) as a benefit to their employees. These services help save time for the employees by giving them access to an expert who can work with them until they have found childcare.
