Spring has arrived, and that can only mean one thing, baseball fever is in full swing! This season, residents of Winston-Salem and Forsyth County get to celebrate, along with our own Winston-Salem Dash, the 10th anniversary of Dash baseball at beautiful BB&T Ballpark. The Dash have lots of exciting things planned for this season, with fan-favorite promotions, including Lowes Foods Family Sunday; Lowes Foods Thirsty Thursday; Pups in the Park, presented by Handy and Handy Orthodontics; All-You-Can-Eat Nights, with free hot dogs and French fries (corn dogs will be available while supplies last); and postgame fireworks, after all Friday home games. Meanwhile, kids can run the bases, presented by New Balance Winston-Salem, after all weekend games
If you were a part of last year’s successful season, you witnessed our Dash win the first-half title of the Carolina League Southern Division to guarantee their spot early in the postseason playoffs, along with their fantastic finish winning the second-half division title, as well, to complete one of the best seasons in Dash history. Off the field, the Dash received further honors, including the Bob Freitas Award, recognizing the top overall operation at each level of the Minor Leagues by Baseball America, and Ballpark Digest’sHonorable Mention for the 2018 Team of the Year. And to top it off, 2018 Manager Omar Vizquel was named the Carolina League’s Manager of the Year.
Lots of future stars were born from last season’s team, amazing fans with their dramatic comebacks, spectacular home runs, dominating performances, and high-octane baseball at its best.
Obviously, avid baseball fans love the Dash experience; however, families, young people, co-workers and friends looking for a fun time after work and more, have discovered the magic that is a day or night at the ballpark. From the moment you arrive and hear the sound of the music, the announcing of batters, and the roar of the crowd, you know you’re in for a good time. Then, as you enter the ballpark and smell the delicious aroma of hotdogs and hamburgers in the air, you understand this is more than just a baseball game. You don’t have to be an expert to appreciate what a night at the ballpark has to offer. After a hard day at work, you can relax, sit back, have some good food and drink and enjoy a night out with the Dash, along with several thousand fans with similar interests. The beauty of BB&T Ballpark is that you can choose the experience you want to have. Do you want to spend an evening with friends sharing comradery and watching action-packed baseball? This is the place. Perhaps you’d like to take the family out for some delicious ballpark food, enjoy a game, and let the children have fun in the Kids’ Zone, a large fenced-in inflatables play area with a vintage carousel—if so, you’ve chosen well. Or maybe everyone’s busy, and you’ve got some time on your hands by yourself with no particular plans. You can come out to the ballpark and enjoy the Dash, free of demands, schedules, stress, and have a nice time experiencing the charged atmosphere of exciting minor league baseball. So, no matter your situation, there’s always a good time to be had at a Dash game.
The Dash will once again be a part of the “Copa de laDiversión” or “Fun Cup,” series that transforms BB&T Ballpark during select Sunday home games this season, and embraces the culture and values that resonate most with the Dash’s Hispanic/Latino fans. The extraordinary gameday experience includes select music, Hispanic-style food options and promotions designed with the Hispanic/Latino community in mind. The Dash will again adorn the white jerseys with red and blue stripes, and red hats with the “R” logo, to become the “Winston-Salem Rayados” (meaning, “the Striped Ones.”) This is yet another example of how the Dash organization is always working hard to provide fans with the best variety in entertainment and fun for the entire family.
As the Dash celebrate their 10th anniversary at BB&T Ballpark, they continue to have record attendance each year for High A Baseball. 2,713,684 total fans have enjoyed Dash baseball in its first nine seasons. No doubt, this year more attendance records will be broken. The 2019 home schedule includes 70 home games, with 32 being home weekend games (Friday, Saturday or Sunday). In addition, special holidays can be enjoyed at the ballpark, with their Mother’s Day game on Sunday, May 12th, versus Down East (Texas), and the always popular Fourth of July Celebration when the Dash host the new Fayetteville franchise (“Astros”).
