January offers a variety of interesting and exciting events for families to experience in and around the Triad. Here are some of the top offerings:

Cirque du Soleil, Songblazers: A Journey into Country Music

Drawing inspiration from the rich legacy of country music, “Songblazers” pays homage to the legendary trailblazers of the past. 

Beehive
Theatre Alliance, Winston-Salem
Jan. 10-19, Various times
Tickets $19-$21
This musical celebrates the powerful female voices of the 1960s with such timeless hits as “My Boyfriend’s Back,” “Be My Baby” and “Son of a Preacher Man.” The story is told from the perspective of six young women. 

Beyond the Blue Ridge, Winston-Salem Symphony
Reynolds Auditorium
Jan. 11-12, 7:30 p.m. and 3 p.m.
Tickets $29-$96
This concert will transport you to the American West. There will be stirring themes from Elmer Bernstein’s “The Magnificent Seven” and Aaron Copeland’s “Billy the Kid.” 

Monster Jam
First Horizon Coliseum, Greensboro Complex
Jan. 11-12, 7 p.m. and 2 p.m.
Tickets start at $20
This is an opportunity to watch the world’s best drivers tear up the dirt and show off crazy skills and all-out racing in fierce head-to-head battles of skill and speed. 

Kevin Hart: Acting My Age
Ovens Auditorium, Bojangles Entertainment Complex, Charlotte
Jan. 17-19, various times
Tickets start at $84
Kevin Hart, an Emmy- and Grammy-nominated comedian, has starred in films grossing more than $4 billion. His 2022 comedy tour was Billboard’s #1 comedy tour. And his 2020 Netflix special was the platform’s biggest stand-up special. 

Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey presents The Greatest Show on Earth
Spectrum Center, Charlotte
Jan. 17-19, Various times
Tickets start at $25
The all-new Ringling Bros. welcomes everyone to a world of thrilling fun. This is the ultimate playground with trapeze swings soaring into the air, jaw-dropping somersaults off teeter-totters and BMX riders defying gravity on huge ramps. 

Aretha: A Tribute
Steven Tanger Center, Greensboro
Jan. 18, 7:30 p.m.
Tickets start at $35
This is a tribute to the Queen of Soul: Aretha Franklin. The program, with the Greensboro Symphony Orchestra, features Capathia Jenkins and Ryan Shaw, a three-time Grammy-nominee. They will perform such iconic hits at “Respect,” “Think,” “A Natural Woman,” “Chain of Fools,” “Amazing Grace” and many others. 

Tonality, Vocal Ensemble
Wait Chapel, Wake Forest University
Jan. 20, 7:30 p.m.
Tickets $25
Tonality has established in 2016. This year they won a Grammy Award. Tonality has collaborated with choral composers and film composers. They strive for diverse voices and perspectives within the composer community. 

Randy Travis – The More Life Tour
Ovens Auditorium, Charlotte
Jan. 23, 7:30 p.m.
Tickets start at $54
This show features Randy Travis, the legendary country music singer, and his co-star in The Price, James Dupre´. The two will appear with their long-time touring band. 

Happy Birthday, Mozart!
Watson Hall, UNC School of the Arts, Winston-Salem
Jan. 26, 3 p.m.
Tickets $25
This beloved annual event celebrates the birth of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. UNCSA faculty artists come together for a performance of chamber music to honor Mozart’s 269th birthday. 

Mary J. Blige – The For My Fans Tour
First Horizon Coliseum, Greensboro Complex
Jan. 30, 7 p.m.
Tickets start at $57
Mary J. Blige, the “Queen of Hip-Hop Soul,” is touring with special guests NE-YO and Mario. The tour follows her new album, “Gratitude.” Both are a celebration of the love and gratitude she has toward her life, family, friends and fans.  

John Crist: Jokes for Humans
Steven Tanger Center, Greensboro
Jan. 31, 7 p.m.
Tickets start at $25
John Crist is a fast-rising comedian, with more than 5 million fans on social media. He’s widely known for viral videos: “Honest Football Coach,” “Every Parent at Disney” and “Brands that need to be CANCELLED.”
