Happy New Year! I’m so grateful to be here to say that! This time last year, I was dealing with a lot of uncertainty with my recent breast and thyroid cancer diagnosis. It has been a year-long journey and one, I’m happy to say, that is almost over. I received my last Herceptin treatment on Dec 28th, and am scheduled to have my port-a-cath removed mid-January. While in many ways, it’s been a difficult journey; in other ways, it’s been an extraordinary chapter in my life. I have learned that I am way stronger than I think and I attribute that all to my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He has sent his many angels on earth to love me and lift me up when I needed it most. I am amazed at the knowledge and technology that has brought healing to my body. I thank all the health professionals at Wake Forest Baptist Health involved in my care, but especially, Dr. Alexandra Thomas, Dr. Marissa Howard-McNatt, Dr. Winkfield and Dr. Cannon. Oncology and Radiation personnel are top notch! A year of amazing surprises, like the Sunrise ladies prayer circle, the Triad Pink Heals fire truck visit and Breast vacation surprise dinner, with too many friends to count. Most of all, my dear family! I can never repay them for the love and care they have shown during this time. Yes, life is just a little bit sweeter now, and may I never forget that in the hustle and bustle of restored health!
January is always a fun issue, as it features our annual pull-out Celebrate Life calendar and Birthday Bonanza. It’s a great place to keep up with the celebrations in your life, but also has an easy reference to help make your special moments the best they can be! There are so many fun and unique party providers in our community! January is also the start of our three-month prom section. And no, it’s not too early to start planning the ultimate prom experience for your teen!
Our cover features the YMCA of Northwest NC. How fun is our cover with all those smiling faces? The Y provides amazing opportunities and activities for ALL ages, but this month focuses on the many youth programs offered. If you’ve never been to the Y, I highly recommend checking your local branch out!
