From the Heart – August 2019

My husband and I were riding in the car to dinner the other night, when Tami on WBFJ 89.3fm asks the question, “Would you rather take several smaller vacations or one long one?” My husband immediately says, “Both!” Vacations are amazing in any shape or form, so I hope you’ve been able to take one. I’m excited that August is finally here because it means family vacation time for me, but I’m also a little sad as I know it means summer is coming to an end soon. Since my birthday is in July, summer is my season! I love wearing flip flops and attending outdoor summer concerts; watching baseball games at the Dash and trips to the pool. For now, I will relish these last hot, hazy days and enjoy my Florida vacation making new memories with my family.

School buses will start rolling at the end of the month. It’s been quite a while since I had little ones to get ready for school, but I still remember the excitement and anticipation of their first day. Buying school supplies and finding just the right backpack and lunchbox. Kudos to all the teachers who help shape our future citizens! You are an amazing bunch of folks, and we are grateful for all you do!

This month features one of my favorite restaurants, Little Richard’s BBQ! Are you in for a treat to see their newest location on Stratford Road? They have really transformed the space they are in to an amazing new atmosphere that families will enjoy for years to come! Unlike other locations, it will have a bar and has private dining rooms for those special celebrations in your life. I have known the Karagiorgis family for many years as their daughter Victoria is the same age as my youngest. It has been fun watching Stephen grow up and now work alongside his dad, Nick, and mom, Stacey.

We’ve added a new puzzle page for kids this month. Lots of great articles to help make going back to school a little easier! Thank you to the NC Tennis Association for a great Kids’ Morning Out at Hanes Park in July. It’s always fun to get excited about tennis before the WS Open, see pages 36-37. Be sure to mark your calendar for our August KMO in conjunction with WFU’s Football Fan Fest, see page 45. As always, we thank our advertisers and readers for your support, for without you, we would not exist!

Blessings!
