On Saturday, February 8th, over 500 guests gathered at Graylyn for the 37th-annual Winterlark event. Winterlark assists the Cancer Patient Support Program (CPSP) at Wake Forest Baptist’s Comprehensive Cancer Center. CPSP started in 1980 and offers counseling, patient education, support groups and other services to the community at no cost.
This year’s chairs were the CEO of Allegacy Federal Credit Union, Cathy Pace, and her husband, Chris. The event’s Presenting Sponsor was Allegacy; along with the Diamond Sponsors, Celgene and Wells Fargo, The Private Bank; and Emerald Sponsor, Reynolds American Inc.
As guests mingled with each other, they enjoyed a silent auction where local businesses and individuals made generous donations, all in support of CPSP. They also were entertained by UNCSA Bella Ward, Michele Zimmerman and Kelsie Carlisle, along with Oboist Sara Lynch.
This year’s fundraiser was the most successful in Winterlark’s history, raising over $373,000 for the Cancer Patient Support Program. Since its inception in 1980, the event has raised a total of over $7.5 million. “It is heartening to see an event that generates this kind of support from the community, year after year,” said Julie Freischlag, M.D., Chief Executive Officer of Wake Forest Baptist Health and Dean of the Wake Forest School of Medicine. Dr. Freischlag added, “We deeply appreciate this partnership with the community and what it means for the patients and families we care for.”
Mark your calendar now for the 2021 Winterlark on February 6th, which will be chaired by Ashley & Matt Kohlrus and Sarah & Coleman Team.
