Simply Southern Cuisine – For the Love of Comfort Food

Since stepping in as owner of Simply Southern Cuisine in 2006, Lisa Miller has always held a vision for the much-loved Clemmons business close to her heart. Those plans include not only the deliciousness of their legendary comfort food, but also the necessary growth of their welcoming retail space!

Those expansion plans have been constantly evolving, with a brand new sign and spacious walk-in freezer taking center stage as this past year’s refresh. More recently, as part of what Lisa still refers to as Phase 1, the old front counter has been replaced with a shiny new version, along with updated flooring. Next up, the walls will be painted gray to match that striking new floor.

Excitement is already building for Phase 2 of the long-awaited changes, where an addition to the side of the building will create 300+ square feet for a new dish room and office space, more retail space, much-needed working kitchen space and more tables for prep work.

Plenty of changes in appearance – yes – but no compromising on the mouth-watering, soul fulfilling menu that keeps local families well-nourished through busy work weeks and traditional holiday meals.

It’s unanimous that everything on the Simply Southern Cuisine menu is irresistible, from entrées and desserts that might evoke memories of your grandmother’s kitchen, to a varied catering menu that makes your life so much tastier! For the past 19 years, Simply Southern Cuisine has offered customers amazing homecooked food made with love and guaranteed to make memories for your own family around the dinner table.

That’s because family has played a huge role in Simply Southern Cuisine’s success, as Lisa’s own children and grandchildren are frequent visitors and helpers! Her daughter, Kory, who makes most of those irresistible chicken pies, points out a favorite tradition of adding the signature pastry chicken image in the center of each pie.

“Over the years, we’ve had parents call and ask if there’s any way we could put two chicken designs on their pie, as they have two kids who actually fight over eating that part!” shares Lisa. She also tempts customers with the possibility of other creative options for personalizing these bestselling chicken pies: “What’s For Dinner?” or “Happy Birthday” or even “Oh, Baby” for your next baby shower – with letters intricately formed from their incredible pastry!

This is where you come for comfort food that truly heals the body and soul, plus you’ll find a warm camaraderie throughout the popular family owned business. Employees are family – pure and simple – and workdays at Simply Southern Cuisine are a balance of love, laughter and creating delicious memories they love sharing with customers.

Focusing on the flavorful menu, you’ll always be dining on the freshest ingredients, whether you choose to pick up a meal that’s hot or frozen. Portion sizes and entrée varieties are made to please any of the taste buds at your family’s weeknight dinner. If it’s a special event you’re planning, make the meal perfect with selections from their catering menu that include breakfast, lunch, dinner and even appetizers. It’s no surprise that chicken pie is still the number one customer request, with Swiss chicken, baked spaghetti and macaroni and cheese also among the list of longtime customer favorites. When it comes to homemade desserts, mouthwatering options range from apple pie, pecan pie and banana pudding to a lineup of beloved family recipe cakes and brownies.

Always with an eye on the community that has helped build their business, Lisa and her team have partnered with both Second Harvest Food Bank and West Forsyth High School in various community based programs.

In 2024, they welcomed students from Second Harvest’s chef program to complete vital hands-on training in the kitchen as interns with Simply Southern Cuisine.

“The students’ final project is to work for 32 hours in a true commercial environment,” Lisa shares. “It’s an amazing program, as it’s free to the students, as well as free to us to have them working here. We’ve had six amazing ladies this year as students and actually hired two of them during our busy December season!”
