Making Plans for Summer Fun At Crossnore

Summer is finally here! Everyone around us is getting together ideas, plans, and schedules for summertime activities.  Crossnore School & Children’s Home is getting ready for a busy summer as well and could use your help.  Their plans include summer camp, gardening, beach trips, sports activities, Vacation Bible School, club activities/events geared to specific interests, and more.

You can help by donating some of the gear the kids will need to fully enjoy all these great plans. We’ve all heard the phrase ‘it takes a village;’ however, in this case it could be a family project, a group of neighbors, a civic or social club, or perhaps a Sunday School class or work team from a local business.  Giving is routinely part of the holiday season; let’s shift to giving/sharing to ensure a great summer for the Crossnore kids!

Their wish list includes:

Fill a beach bag with:

  • Beach towel
  • Sunscreen
  • Wet wipes
  • Reusable water bottles

For summer campers, they could use:

  • Sunscreen
  • Wet wipes
  • Reusable water bottles
  • Sports balls (footballs, basketballs, kick balls, or dodge balls)
  • Bug spray
  • Jump ropes
  • Kits (jewelry making, face painting, tie dye, etc.)
  • Sketch pads/pencils
  • Chess set for rainy days

Other ideas:

  • Gift cards (Amazon, Target, Walmart, gas, or grocery)
  • Beach chairs/umbrellas
  • Swim vests
  • Arts and crafts supplies (glue, chalk, paints, pom-pom balls, pipe cleaners, popsicle sticks, posters, etc.)
  • Volleyball set
  • Grill
  • Tug of War rope
  • Kiddie pool or slip ‘n slide

For additional information about donating or other questions, contact Kimberly King at the Winston-Salem campus (1001 Reynolda Road) via phone (336.721.7600) or email ([email protected]).  For the Avery campus in Crossnore, NC, contact Mariea Tountasakis at 828.733.4305 or email([email protected]).

Your help is appreciated in ensuring the Crossnore kids have a summer to remember.  Be sure to follow Crossnore on social media (FaceBook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, or their website (crossnore.org) and enjoy all their smiles!
