Most people have a dream, but fewer actually make their dreams a reality. Opening a pizza shop has been a lifelong dream for Robert Wiley, and on October 5th, 2017, that dream came true.
“I have wanted to open a pizza place since I was a kid,” shared Robert. “I came close to opening one in my 20s, but the timing wasn’t right. I don’t know that I would have been successful in my 20s. I ended up working in the real estate industry. While I still love real estate and participate in it as a part of a successful real estate team, after 18 years, it was time to revisit that dream. I was finally in a position to do it, and thankfully, I have an incredible network of support around me.”
Pie Guys Pizza & More could easily be called the best-kept secret in the Triad. “We’ve been fortunate to have quickly developed a loyal following in the community,” shared Robert. “However, there has been some confusion about our address. We have a Winston-Salem address, but we are technically located in Clemmons in the Kinnamon Village Commons shopping center (and across from Food Lion).”
For those who have discovered Pie Guys Pizza & More, they know they’ve found something special. Charles and Katie Marsh are loyal customers of Pie Guys. “We absolutely love this pizza,” gushed Katie. “It’s obvious by the taste that Robert has a great appreciation for the art of pizza making and has worked hard to hone his craft. It is, in our opinion, the best pizza we’ve ever had.”
Robert shared, “We believe the best pizza starts with great ingredients. We make our dough from scratch every day, and it’s aged 24 hours to have the best flavor. We make our own sauces, and when it comes to choosing vendors for our ingredients—we have chosen the best. Our cheese and meat vendors have a long history in making fine, Italian ingredients and they use old-world traditions for authentic Italian taste.”
Robert is a Winston-Salem native, but it’s clear his travels have influenced his love for pizza. “The pizza we make is New York style, but I love to visit pizzerias in other cities,” he shared. “I am always eager to try something new and see how we can incorporate other elements into our menu.”
The menu boasts a wide selection of options, including salads, wings, and subs. They have pizza available by the slice or as a whole.
They also have some gluten-free(ish) options! “We add the ‘ish,’ because for those who are highly sensitive to gluten, we want to be forthright. We cook all our pizzas in the same oven, and we’re diligent about using different cutting tools on our gluten-free pizzas. In addition to the gluten-free crust, Pie Guys & More will be offering a cauliflower crust pizza starting in May! “I’m not even a huge fan of cauliflower,” said Robert. “But this crust is amazing. I’m looking forward to sharing it with our customers!”
Delivery is also an option! “When we’re open, we have delivery service available,” said Robert. “For movie night or game night—we are just a phone call away and are happy to bring freshly baked pizza to our customers! Our delivery map is available on our website.”
Pie Guys Pizza & More is growing, and Robert is grateful for the support of the community. “We have been welcomed, and it’s hard to believe how fast time has flown! We appreciate our customers, and of course, I’m grateful to my fiancée and our families and friends who have supported me through this process!”
