Growing up in a small town, we had a few events that brought out the entire community. From delicious food to seeing my friends and neighbors, it was one of those really exciting days where we could all just hang out together and remember that beyond our busy day to day, we were part of a larger community.
Imagine how excited I was to find out about Clemmons Community Day, back for the eleventh year in 2020. Partnering again with Chamber member Jerry Long Family YMCA, this free and rain or shine community-wide event offers a stage for local businesses to feature their products and services to residents and visitors – last year showcased over 100 vendors to 5,000 community members.
Created in 2009 by local real estate expert Jody Peske and former Clemmons mayor John Bost to unite neighbors, friends, and local business owners, every year seeks to top the last, and this year is no exception. While new adventures come each year, time-honored traditions stand tall and sometimes, become a bit deeper. For example, Community Day begins with the national anthem, and this year, a cancer survivor will be singing the patriotic song.
“What makes Clemmons Community Day successful year after year is the heart that goes into it – the volunteers, the community, the kids, the survivors,” said Ditra Miller, Executive Director of the Lewisville-Clemmons Chamber of Commerce. “It’s what makes our community strong, and it’s what makes the businesses in our community, the members of the Lewisville-Clemmons Chamber, want to give back, build, and grow here.”
In addition to the anthem, Community Day is doubling the entertainment for kids at this fun for all ages event: think rock wall, trackless train, super slide, double bounce houses and, according to Miller, a special surprise. “This will be the first year we will have a limo on-site…not just any limo either. It’s a Mouse Limo!” If you’re scratching your head, be sure to look up Truly Nolen Pest Control & Termites Mouse Limo to catch a glimpse of the incredible extended VW Bug “Limo” – or better yet, come out to enjoy it as well as face painting, a ladder firetruck, gem mining, music and more fun for all ages adventures.
Aside from the family-fun entertainment, local businesses will be on hand to connect with community members – and if you’re a local business thinking “Wow! What a great opportunity!” you still have time to register and participate by visiting the chamber website.
While the event is free, visitors are encouraged to bring a donation for the Clemmons Food Pantry. Clemmons Food Pantry always accepts canned and boxed food, but they are also in need of adult hygiene items.
Start getting excited for Clemmons Community Day! I’ll be hanging by the food vendors, reliving the community vibe from my youth and getting to know my neighbors – just like you!
