Story time!
My (now) husband and I moved to Washington Park at the end of 2021. To be completely honest, I had never even heard of the neighborhood. I was living in Clemmons at the time and felt a calling that it was time to sell my house. On a whim, I found an incredible 100+-year-old home that had just come back on the market after a previous sale fell through.
To make a long story short, we moved into the house just a few weeks later, and it felt like a dream.
As we got to know the neighborhood, Gavin and I would frequently walk our dogs and pass a particular vacant building about half a mile from our house. Every single time, Gavin would say, “That building would make a great gym.” Every single time, I agreed…but didn’t think much more about it.
To make a REALLY long story short, that vacant building that “would make a great gym” has been home to Washington Park CrossFit for nearly four years now.
Building this community alongside my husband, our business partner Scott, and our phenomenal coaching staff has been one of the greatest joys of my life. At our core, our mission is simple: help people. We do that through fitness, but even more importantly, through community.
A couple of years ago, we had the privilege of welcoming Roberto Rodriguez through our doors. Roberto and his wife, Stephany, have an incredible story, and it is truly an honor to share it with you this month. Along with their two beautiful children, they are featured on our cover, and you can read all about their journey beginning on page 18.
Also this month, we’re hosting an extra-special Girls’ Night Out at Second Harvest Food Bank! My mom, Keela, and Robin (former publisher of Forsyth Family and a lifelong family friend) celebrate birthdays on July 15th and 16th, so we’re throwing a party in honor of these two amazing women on Thursday, July 16th.
The theme? LET’S EAT CAKE!
(I mean, can you think of a better theme?)
You’ll need to purchase tickets in advance for this one, and you can do so by scanning the QR code on page 47.
Speaking of nostalgia, have you seen “90s Summer” trending on social media? As a girlie who grew up in the ’90s, I am absolutely here for it. There’s something so nostalgic about the idea of less screen time and more simple fun—catching lightning bugs, backyard barbecues, Slip ‘N Slides, sprinklers, bike rides, and staying outside until the streetlights came on.
Our very own Taryn dives into the trend this month, and if you’re interested in recreating a little ’90s magic this summer, you’ll definitely want to check it out on page 40.
As always, our team pours its heart into every issue, and we hope you enjoy reading this one as much as we enjoyed putting it together. Without our loyal readers, there would be no Forsyth Family Magazine. For that—and for you—we are truly grateful.
Wishing you a summer full of sunshine, sweet memories, and plenty of ’90s fun.
