Sometimes, there is such a thing as a free lunch.
In April, Truliant Federal Credit Union began having meals delivered from local restaurants to its employees as well as essential workers from businesses in the Triad and Charlotte-Metro region.
Called “People Helping People,” the initiative supports both local restaurants and essential workers on the front lines of the COVID-2019 virus pandemic. The credit union plans to continue ordering meals to support workers and community partners at various times throughout the pandemic.
On April 15, lunches were delivered to the first group, employees of Novant Health’s respiratory assessment centers at Highland Oaks Drive in Winston-Salem and Gateway Center Drive in Kernersville. Box lunches were catered from Midtown Café, and funded by Truliant, in Winston-Salem and Thyme 2 Cater in Kernersville.
Additionally, the credit union provided lunches to more than 200 of its own essential workers starting with employees at its headquarters and Truliant Academy locations.
“There is no question this pandemic has put a strain on healthcare workers and medical facilities across America and this is a way to say thank you to our local first responders for their continued efforts,” said Todd Hall, President and CEO of Truliant.
“Truliant has our own group of essential workers and it’s important to recognize them for upholding our mission and diligently working to provide financial relief and assistance to our impacted families and businesses,” he added.
“Credit unions are founded on the philosophy of people helping people. A great meal from a favorite local restaurant is one way to support those not “sheltered in place” to keep our communities running,” said Sherri Thomas, Chief Human Resources and Organizational Development Officer.
She added: “A meal nourishes the body, spirit and the soul. It is a tangible way we can show people just how much we appreciate their efforts.”
Chad Setliff, president and COO of Forsyth Medical Center and Novant Health’s greater Winston-Salem market, thanked Truliant for the kindness and support shown to Novant Health’s team members.
“The outpouring of support from Truliant and other community partners has been tremendous,” said Setliff. “On behalf of all of our team members, thank you for every card, meal, mask, and word of encouragement. We’re thankful to be a part of this community and it’s our privilege to care for you.”
