If you have a teen or young adult about to graduate high school or college, you are likely in the midst of a lot of chaos. My oldest daughter is graduating high school this month, and it seems like anytime we check something off the checklist, something else pops up.
One of those many items is planning a graduation party. Here are a few ideas and tips I’ve picked up along the way. I hope they help you in your graduation party planning!
Utilize Electronic Invitations
Save yourself the money, time and stress of paper invitations. I used Evite, and it was so easy. Plus, it’s much easier to track head counts, and people are more likely to RSVP that way.
Incorporate College Colors
If your high school senior is college bound, instead of incorporating high school colors into your decor and desserts, embrace their future and use their chosen college colors instead.
Include Your Graduate
Instead of doing all the planning and decor yourself, get their help, ideas and suggestions. They likely have some and, as the guest of honor, should get to have some say! They know they graduated, so it’s not like this needs to be a surprise party!
Keep It Simple
With the unlimited ideas and resources on social media and Google, it’s tempting to try to do it all. Do yourself a favor and keep it simple. This advice applies to everything from the decorations and food to the guest list and location.
Incorporate the Season
As graduations always happen in May or June, the weather here is always warm. So, consider outside activities and games or even a pool party for your graduation party.
Celebrate Their Past
Your graduate has worked many long years to get here, so be sure to show off that past. Some ideas to do that include:
- Photo board or banner with lots of old and new photos.
- Get their favorite children’s book and ask people to sign it.
- Showcase some of their top or favorite school art or projects.
- Put together a journal that has photos of family and friends and ask them to leave words of advice on their page or in it.
Amazon Is Your Friend
Skip shopping in-store at Target, Walmart or the local party store, and get some or all of your party decorations and supplies off Amazon or online sites. This saves you the trip to the store, and all those extra items that are tempting to buy on that trip. Plus, a simple search for graduation party decor in the Amazon search bar will give you tons of ideas!
Customize To Your Guest of Honor
Add a unique and personalized touch by customizing one or more party decor. You can include their name, class year and whatever else feels special to your graduate.
No matter how you plan to celebrate your graduate, remember to simply tell and show them how proud you are of them for this major accomplishment in their life!
