Take a trip together to Old Salem where you can experience authentic history, indulge in fresh-baked treats, purchase unique holiday gifts and enjoy seasonal concerts. From November 1 through December 31, Old Salem Museums & Gardens experiences that will bring holiday joy to all.
Old Salem’s Christmas by Candlelight Tours will enchant your soul and are a great way to experience the holidays as the early Moravians did. Stroll the historic town guided by the warm glow of candles as interpreters provide fascinating facts about life in Salem in the 18th (November tours) and 19th centuries (December tours). Both tours include music, food and drink. Tours take place November 18, 19, 25, 26 and December 2, 3, 9, 16, 17, 22, 23 at 6:30, 7:00, 7:30, and 8:00 p.m. They last around one hour and depart from the Herbst House at 511 S. Main Street. Tickets are $20 for adults, $15 for children and $18 for Friends of Old Salem. Tours are available to a limited number of people and are booked.
For a full day of holiday fun, come by A Salem Christmas on December 10. This celebration of traditional Moravian holiday traditions will take with carol singing and the lighting of the Christmas pyramid in Salem Square at 5:15 p.m. Just a few of the Salem Christmas activities and demonstrations that you can take part in include: making your own marzipan treat, sampling traditional Moravian Christmas cakes, puppet shows, wagon rides, and hearth cooking. In addition, you can enjoy a carol sing with The Singing Sisters, who will perform at 1 p.m., 2:30 p.m. and 3:30 p.m. at the James A. Gray, Jr. Auditorium, old Salem Visitor Center. Activities are included with an All-In-One ticket, which are $21 for adults and $10 for children ages 6-16.
