Although Tanglewood Pharmacy, in Clemmons, NC, an independently owned and operated pharmacy, has only been open a few months, its reputation for friendly, knowledgeable and especially personalized service has grown since day one. For owner and pharmacist, David Schomberg, Jr., his focus of putting the patient first and keeping their care individualized is the foundation for his business.
A Full Perspective Out of the BOX…
After graduating from UNC in 1993, David Schomberg, Jr. began his career as a pharmacist in the retail setting, giving him a complete and full perspective on the industry. “After graduating, I worked as a pharmacist in a ‘big box’ store and then on a smaller scale at a chain pharmacy, eventually working for a local long-term care pharmacy which provided medications to facilities in the area, like assisted living and nursing homes. Throughout my career, I became frustrated with the lack of interaction with the customers. In order to make any kind of change to implement better customer service, there was a lot of bureaucracy,” recalled David. As David weighed his future, he began studying for his MBA at UNC-G in the evenings while continuing to work during the day. He graduated in 2000, leading him to open Yadkin Valley Pharmacy in 2005. “During the last few years I began to get in touch with my entrepreneurial side and talked to my friend and now business partner about opening an independent pharmacy in the Yadkinville area, as well as a long-term care pharmacy. This year, we had to move the long-term care pharmacy into its own building, due to the success of both. In a little over 6 years, Yadkin Valley Pharmacy is the pharmacy of choice for many in the Yadkinville area, and now Yadkin Valley Assisted Care serves nine assisted living facilities, eight group homes, The Children’s Home of NC and the Yadkin County jail,” David said. With the two pharmacies going well in Yadkinville, David was ready to focus on establishing a local pharmacy in the Clemmons area.
