I recently took my daughter to Snip-its, the Disneyland of hair salons. Located in the Harper Commons shopping center on Country Club Road in Winston-Salem, it is the second Snips-its owner Debra Prince has opened. I asked Prince what inspired her to open a Snip-its franchise. She was searching for career options that would allow her more time with her children and came upon Snip-its.

“I thought, there are pediatric doctors, dentists, and even restaurants tailored for kids, why not a hair salon that caters to kids?” The franchise wanted their first salon to be near Charlotte or Raleigh, so the Princes opened their first salon in Huntersville, NC. After six successful years, they’ve now opened a second location in Winston-Salem.

Very kid-friendly, the place is chock-full of colorful entertainment options for kids while they have their haircut. Kids can choose from an educational “game” to play, or an 11-minute video, and munch on animal crackers while they receive their haircut, while mom or dad sits beside them in the “parent chair.” After the cut, children receive a prize. Other services include hair wraps, feathers and tinsel. For baby’s first time, you can choose the First Hair Cut Package, which includes a certificate, a bag for baby’s hair clippings and a photo and frame. Girls can get glamorous with their friends at a Snip-its soiree – every giggly little girl’s glamorous dream come true. Party options include a Spa Party: manicure, pedicure, facial; a Glamour Party: hair style, makeup and manicure, and dress-up for a fashion show catwalk; or a Rock Star Party: hairstyle, makeup, and karaoke, complete with inflatable guitars.
